The Heart of Napa Series #1
By- Deborah Coonts
Genre- Contemporary Romance/Women’s Fiction
Publication Date-March 8, 2016

In Napa Valley, he who has the best grapes wins.
And in the pursuit of perfection, dreams and hearts can be crushed.
Sophia Stone is a widow on the brink of an empty nest, stuck in an unsatisfying job managing the vineyard for a mediocre Napa vintner.  Faced with an uncertain future she wonders how do you choose between making a living and making a life?  Between protecting your heart and sharing it?  Five years ago, after her husband was killed in an accident, Sophia put her heart and dreams on ice to care for those around her.  Now her home, her dreams, and her family’s legacy grapes are threatened by the greed of the new money moving into the Valley.   Sophia has a choice—give up and let them take what is hers, or risk everything fighting a battle everyone says she can’t win.

Nico Treviani has one goal in life: make brilliant wine.  A woman would be an unwanted distraction.  So, while recognized as one of Napa’s premier vintners, Nico finds himself alone… until his brother’s death drops not one, but two women into his life—his thirteen-year-old twin nieces.  In an instant, Nico gains a family and loses his best friend and partner in the winemaking business.  Struggling to care for his nieces, Nico accepts a job as head winemaker for Avery Specter, one of the new-money crowd.  And he learns the hard way that new money doesn’t stick to the old rules.

Author Spotlight on Deborah Coonts!

Please tell us about yourself using 3 adjectives, 1 quirk and a pop culture addiction Disciplined, funny, loyal.  Pop Culture?  Not. A. One.  Okay, maybe The Voice.

Top 3 Pet Peeves  Meanness.  Pettiness.  Whining.

Who do you consider the most swoon-worthy man/woman in the literary world? Swoon-worthy?  Hmmm…. Dirk Pitt.         How about on tv/in the movies? Colin Firth--in any role whatsoever.

Top 5 Favorite Things My son and DIL.  My friends.  Reading.  Travel.  Champagne.

What are your thoughts on book covers- in your opinion do they make or break a book?  They certainly can, and they are so hard to “get right.”  For me, the story blurb is what will make or break my buying decision.

What’s the last song you listened to?  Last Christmas, by Wham.  I KNOW!!!  It’s on my favorites playlist.  What can I say, it makes me bounce around in my chair, okay?

How do you come up with character names?  I really flesh out the character and usually an appropriate first name will pop into my head.  The last name--I pick something that fits not only with the first name, but with the character.  For instance, he he strong and serious, then I need a name that fits.  Funny and warm, ditto.  But it won’t be the same name. How do you come up with novel titles?  With my Lucky series--they all have Lucky in the title, so that narrows it a bit.  Then I want something snappy because the books a fast and funny.  If I can fit in some innuendo, so much the better:)  With the Napa series, the titles are all one word and fit the industry the book is set in:  CRUSHED, for wine; PRESSED, for cheese, TEMPERED for chocolate, etc.  The romantic suspense is DEEP WATER--the drilling is in deep water but the characters also find themselves in deep water, so I liked that as a title.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?  If it’s your passion, if you can’t imagine doing anything other than writing, then charge ahead and never give up.  If writing simply sounds like something that would be fun, take up golf.

This or That-

*Morning or Night? Morning.

*Vanilla or Chocolate? Vanilla.

*Summer or Winter? Winter.

*Ebook or Paperback? Both, but ebook because of the price point and ease of transport.

*Fantasy or Paranormal? Neither.  But, if I had to choose….wherever I could have a super-power:)

About the Author-
My mother tells me I was born a very long time ago, but I’m not so sure—my mother can’t be trusted.  These things I do know:  I was raised in Texas on barbeque, Mexican food and beer.  I am the author of WANNA GET LUCKY? (A NY Times Notable Crime Novel and double RITA™ Finalist), its five sequels, LUCKY BREAK, the latest and just out, and four between-the-books novellas.  Currently I’m stretching my writer muscles working on a women’s fiction/contemporary romance series set in Napa—the first novel, CRUSHED, is out March 8th—a dark thriller, a romantic suspense series featuring a female helicopter pilot, as well as the next Lucky adventure—all very different projects. So, if you see me with a glass of Champagne in hand, you’ll understand.  I can usually be found at the bar, but also at www.deborahcoonts.com.
